How to get the Scrum Master I certification?

 Carole Aubert Gibot

Today, most organizations require Professional Scrum Master Level 1 certification for individuals who are expected to take on this role. Even if this certification is not the synonim of an expertise based on the practice of this role, it still allows to validate a base of knowledge essential to make the Scrum framework live.

So how do you get that famous certification?

  1. Take the Professional Scrum Master training (Link to the calendar). It covers all the topics that will be required on the certification exam.
  2. After the training, you will have 14 days to complete your first attempt at the exam.
  • This is a 60-minute MCQ with 80 questions designed to validate the skills and knowledge acquired in the Professional Scrum Master course.
  • The exam is only in English
  • It is possible to use an automatic translator in Google Chrome
  • To obtain the certification, you must obtain a minimum of 85% of correct answers to the MCQ
  • The procedure for taking the certification will be communicated to you by email following the course
  1. As a Scrum.org partner, a registration to one of our trainings gives you access to two attempts for the exam. If you take the exam within 14 days of the course and fail, you will receive a second attempt, free of charge.

Our advice:

  • Make a first attempt very soon after the end of your course: many questions will be about the length of certain events, the presence of certain roles, etc. These elements will be very fresh in your mind when you leave the training
  • Before taking the exam, review the course slides and the Scrum Guide
  • Feel free to do some Open Assesments
  • Have the Scrum Guide nearby during the review
  • Do not hesitate to “mark” the questions on which you have doubts and to come back to them at the end of the exam so as not to waste too much time

With all of that, you’re ready! 🚀
